VARICOSE VEIN REMOVAL
Varicose veins or varices refer to the pathological enlargement of venous vessels, as the vein valves can no longer perform their valve function. This often leads to leg swelling due to water accumulation in the tissue and, if left untreated, can lead to skin changes up to open leg ulcers. The risk of vein inflammation, deep vein thrombosis, and consequently pulmonary embolism is increased.
Therefore, visible varicose veins should be examined and treated if necessary, even in the absence of symptoms. Timely diagnosis and therapy can prevent complications and increase the chance of symptom relief.

Why Do People Get Varicose Veins?
Changes in leg veins throughout life are a widespread phenomenon. Large-scale studies from the past, such as the Bonn Vein Study from 2003, have shown that this is a common condition.
Genetic predisposition plays a major role in the development of varicose veins. The probability of developing varicose veins in life increases up to 80% if both parents are affected. Other contributing factors that lead to the development of visible varicose veins include overweight, hormone treatments (birth control pills), pregnancies, or lack of exercise.

Thermal Catheter Procedures
Catheter procedures have proven successful for treating trunk veins. Currently, treatment with thermal catheters (Radiofrequency Closure, Fast™ Catheter, or Laser Catheter) is the first choice for treating trunk vein insufficiency. These procedures are minimally invasive and enable targeted and gentle closure of affected veins.
In thermal catheter procedures, a catheter is inserted into the diseased vein, which heats and closes the vein walls through the delivery of thermal energy (radiofrequency or laser). The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia. However, the procedure can also be performed under local anesthesia, so the patient remains awake and responsive during treatment.
Mini-Stripping
For treating side branches (visible varicose veins), minor surgical procedures such as mini-stripping are used. This minimally invasive technique is used to remove affected veins that cause cosmetic or mild discomfort.
In mini-stripping, small incisions are made in the skin over the affected vein, through which special instruments are inserted to carefully remove the vein. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, so the patient remains awake while the vein is specifically removed.
Ultrasound-Controlled Endovenous Foam Sclerotherapy
Ultrasound-controlled endovenous foam sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive method for treating varicose veins. It offers a gentle alternative to other procedures by specifically closing affected veins without affecting surrounding tissue.
In this technique, a special sclerosing foam is injected into the diseased vein under ultrasound control. The foam fills the vein and causes irritation of the vein wall, leading to closure of the vein. This method is particularly suitable for patients who want quick and effective treatment without major interventions.
