THROMBOSIS Treatment

Vein thrombosis involves the closure of a vein by a clot. The cause of thrombosis can be diverse. Immobility due to illness, surgery, after childbirth, and prolonged sitting (long-haul flight – travel thrombosis) are common causes of thrombosis. Hormone treatments (birth control pills) also increase the risk of thrombosis. Some patients have a congenital disorder of certain coagulation factors. Thrombosis can also occur in severe diseases (inflammation, cancer) and is often indicative of the underlying condition.

Timely diagnostics and targeted therapy planning are crucial to effectively treat thromboses and prevent complications!

Types of Thrombosis

Superficial Vein Thrombosis

A painful redness and hardening occurs along a superficial vein. Treatment depends on the extent of the thrombosis and size of the affected vessel. For minor vein inflammation, local measures such as heparin ointments and wearing compression stockings are sufficient. In some cases, therapy with blood-thinning medications is necessary.

Deep Vein Thrombosis

This is much more serious because 90% of venous blood in the legs flows through the deep veins. A hard and tense swelling of the affected leg occurs. The leg is pressure-sensitive and often discolored blue. After diagnosis with vascular ultrasound, therapy with blood-thinning medications is definitely initiated. Wearing compression stockings is an important therapy for accompanying leg swelling and supports the breakdown of the blood clot in the vein.

A severe complication of deep vein thrombosis is pulmonary embolism! In both superficial and deep vein thrombosis, patients should remain mobile to prevent further thromboses!

Vascular Check

The vascular check using digital oscillography (Angio Experience) is a simple and painless examination that checks arterial circulation in arms and legs. This method makes it possible to detect changes in arterial vessels early, which can often cause symptoms similar to vein diseases.

It is particularly suitable for obtaining an initial overview of the condition of the arteries. This allows quick decisions on whether further diagnostic steps or treatments are necessary.

Vein Examination

Vein examination is performed through color-coded duplex ultrasound, which is considered the gold standard in diagnosing vein diseases. This examination is painless and enables detailed visualization of affected vein sections as well as the severity of the disease.

It provides crucial information about which treatment method is best suited to restore vein function. Thus, it supports targeted therapy planning and effective treatment.
