Ulcer / Wound Therapy
Wound healing is a core discipline of dermatology. Nevertheless, the causes of a wound or ulcer are often interdisciplinary in nature.
Therefore, careful, usually instrumental, and if necessary interdisciplinary clarification of every non-healing wound is important!

Causes of Chronic Wounds
Most leg ulcers are of venous and/or arterial origin and therefore require clarification primarily through duplex sonography or Doppler ultrasound.
Venous ulcers: About 80% of leg ulcers have a venous cause. Usually the trunk veins are affected and the valves are no longer capable of closing. Treatment is performed through endovenous intervention in the area of the affected trunk veins with a radiofrequency or laser catheter or sclerotherapy using ultrasound-controlled foam sclerotherapy.
Arterial ulcers: These usually develop with so-called peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD). Main causes are smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, or lipid metabolism disorders.
Ulcers of other causes: If skin cancer or an autoimmune disease is suspected, a sample should always be taken and examined histopathologically.
Non-healing wounds can also be an indication of the presence of skin cancer or autoimmune diseases!
