Causes & Treatment
Rosacea is a skin disease that occurs in families and is particularly common in light-skinned people and smokers. It is favored by several factors, including an increased number of Demodex mites and increased antimicrobial peptides in the skin.
Course of Rosacea
Stage I: Episodic and later permanent facial redness (flush) due to vascular dilation.
Stage II: Inflammatory nodules and purulent pustules.
Stage III: Skin thickening, especially on the nose (rhinophyma), mainly in men.
Treatment of Rosacea
Mild forms: Local antibiotics (metronidazole) or anti-mite agents (ivermectin) as well as laser treatments for redness. Cortisone should be avoided.
Severe forms: Systemic therapies with tetracyclines or retinoids, surgical interventions for rhinophyma.
Laser Treatment for Rosacea
Laser treatment is an effective method for reducing redness and dilated vessels that frequently occur with rosacea. Through targeted laser pulses, the dilated blood vessels in the skin are sclerosed, which significantly reduces redness and improves skin appearance.
